I found this quote by George Carlin - its funny, in a way it rings true though.

I know of course we need to take care of our planet - but taking care of ourselves - its true humans arent very good at it.  And, are we just doing say, destructive things to prolong our existence - maybe trying to be immortal in an impermanent world of mortality? Like say trying to extend our lives - granted we have our survival mechanism within us biologically to try to live long as possible; but we do destructive things to the planet. Animals go extinct because of us. We cut down and wipe out the rainforest. Tsunamis and hurricanes - could the earth be trying to kill us off so it can preserve itself? New viruses spring forth. Some have said humans are a cancer of the planet - not all sure but some. Could that be so?

Anyway what you think?:

"We're so self-important. So arrogant. Everybody's going to save something now. Save the trees, save the bees, save the whales, save the snails. And the supreme arrogance? Save the planet! Are these people kidding? Save the planet? We don't even know how to take care of ourselves; we haven't learned how to care for one another. We're gonna save the ****in' planet? . . . And, by the way, there's nothing wrong with the planet in the first place. The planet is fine. The people are ****ed! Compared with the people, the planet is doin' great. It's been here over four billion years . . . The planet isn't goin' anywhere, folks. We are! We're goin' away. Pack your ****, we're goin' away. And we won't leave much of a trace. Thank God for that. Nothing left. Maybe a little Styrofoam. The planet will be here, and we'll be gone. Another failed mutation; another closed-end biological mistake."

I do agree the planet is fine, not ****ed.  But I think  she uses her ways to get us to realize to be mindful of all that we do.  We're not destroying her, for sure, but we should be respectful and many of us are not (yet).

Well he didnt say the planet was ****ed he said we were LOL. The earth however, its true, it is very strong, and 4.5 billion years old, has survived many ages, its been frozen over, it had dinosaurs before - plenty of versions of life. If humans wish to survive for as long as possible, to survive, got to take care of ourselves and earth, and be healthy.. But I certainly agree - she does definitely cause us to be mindful - even that Hurricane Ike when it was coming - had me on the edge - I do not like hurricane season that is for sure.
