What is the point of it all?

Is it all just folly, and we live out life knowing there is no point but acting as if it all matters, somehow-- some way?

Is there a Grand scheme we are following or are we here to make sure we make it to the next life more pure?

Do we even want a next life or is this one it, the last and final stop on our worldly, earthly voyage?

What do you all think?

For me.. the "point of it all" is whatever I choose to give it. That's the only answer I can give as I really don't know. So, not knowing, I then choose.  To me, it's important to be aware.. don't know why I think so, I just do.
I have no idea who I am or what I am.. though I do acknowledge that I am, and I am because I can say that  Wink
How much of me is aware.. well.. that's a constant battle. It is, I believe, awareness that makes one even able to ask "whats the point of it all"

Its a shame when people waste there lives
Its a shame when people see no reason to carry on
However, we are all different

"Never is a long long time

Nothing comes of nothing,
Never is a long, long time,
Wainting in the queue for a life to start,
It's a waste of your time and mine.

No time like the present,
Tomorrow never comes,
An underground journey through
your mind,
Never mind, the fun's only just begun.

Speed kills, going nowhere,
Fast life, in a meltdown,
Spaceman, in the fast lane,
Never is the right time.
Head down, 'til we're certain, showdown,
Just a maze of secrets left unanswered,
Never is a long, long time.

Find the answer, ask the question,
Pay the price, then count the cost,
Take the prize and never finish,
Life is won, life is lost.
Free yourself from independence,
Give Big Brother all control,
Look around, obey the sign,
Ever-falling to the place of retribution,
Never-ending journey, finding
reasons to be free.
Free from questions, giving answers,
Count the cost then pay the price.
Never is a long, long time,
Ever-moving downward, sign of time
decreasing,
Everlasting movement, to the centre
of the earth.
Never is a long, long,
Never is a long, long .......

Welcome to the longest journey,
To a place you'll never, ever go.
Welcome to a theme that doesn't
have a park,
Without a life, a place without a home.

Hear the voice of freedom,
Singing the eternal line,
Looking for a sixth dimension,
Never is a long, long time.

Speed kills, going nowhere,
Fast life in a meltdown,
Spaceman, in the fast lane,
Never is the right time.
Head down, 'til we're certain, showdown,
Just a maze of secrets left unanswered,
Never is a long, long time.

Find the answer, ask the question,
Pay the price, then count the cost,
Take the prize and never finish,
Life is won, all is lost.
Free yourself from independence,
Give Big Brother all control,
Look around, obey the sign,
Ever-moving downward, sign of time
decreasing,
Everlasting movement, to the centre
of the earth.

Never is a long time,
Never is a long time,
Never is a long, long time."

Duality is how we tell real from unreal

"or" perhaps "not"

I like to think there is a point.  Indeed, there may be none.  IF there is a point, it is to experience being in human form.  Every time we do that (yes, I think reincarnation is the gig), we experience another go, either as male or as female, and eventually, we mature and no longer do this thing.

Meantime, it's "have a good time and enjoy yourself".

The shaping of deeply felt values into meaningful, apposite form, is present in all communities, and will find some means of expressions among all - Dell Hymes:

When we understand that man is the only animal who must create meaning, who must open a wedge into neutral nature, we already understand the essence of love. Love is the problem of an animal who must find life, create a dialogue with nature in order to experience his own being - Ernest Becker

I think that taking life seriously means something such as this: that whatever man does on this planet has to be done in the lived truth of the terror of creation, of the grotesque, of the rumble of panic underneath everything. Otherwise it is false. Whatever is achieved must be achieved with the full exercise of passion, of vision, of pain, of fear, and of sorrow. How do we know ... that our part of the meaning of the universe might not be a rhythm in sorrow? - Ernest Becker

What is the meaning of life? To be happy and useful. - HH the Dalai Lama:

One needs something to believe in, something for which one can have whole-hearted enthusiasm. One needs to feel that one's life has meaning, that one is needed in this world. - Hannah Senesh

If you were all alone in the universe with no one to talk to, no one with which to share the beauty of the stars, to laugh with, to touch, what would be your purpose in life? It is other life, it is love, which gives your life meaning. This is harmony. We must discover the joy of each other, the joy of challenge, the joy of growth. - Mitsugi Saotome

Religion is the state of being grasped by an ultimate concern, a concern which qualifies all other concerns as preliminary and which itself contains the answer to the question of the meaning of our life - Paul Tillich:

Spirituality exists wherever we struggle with the issue of how our lives fit into the greater cosmic scheme of things. This is true even when our questions never give way to specific answers or give rise to specific practices such as prayer or meditation. We encounter spiritual issues every time we wonder where the universe comes from, why we are here, or what happens when we die. We also become spiritual when we become moved by values such as beauty, love, or creativity that seem to reveal a meaning or power beyond our visible world. An idea or practice is "spiritual" when it reveals our personal desire to establish a felt-relationship with the deepest meanings or powers governing life. - Robert C. Fuller :

The poem is a little myth of man's capacity of making life meaningful. And in the end, the poem is not a thing we see --i t is, rather, a light by which we may see -- and what we see is life - Robert Penn Warren

What man actually needs is not a tensionless state but rather the striving and struggling for some goal worthy of him. What he needs is not the discharge of tension at any cost, but the call of a potential meaning waiting to be fulfilled by him - Victor Frankl

A man who becomes conscious of the responsibility he bears toward a human being who affectionately waits for him, or to an unfinished work, will never be able to throw away his life. He knows the "why" for his existence, and will be able to bear almost any "how." -  Victor Frankl

We can discover this meaning in life in three different ways: (1) by doing a deed; (2) by experiencing a value; and (3) by suffering. - Victor Frankl

If architects want to strengthen a decrepit arch, they increase the load that is laid upon it, for thereby the parts are joined more firmly together. So, if therapists wish to foster their patients' mental health, they should not be afraid to increase that load through a reorientation toward the meaning of one's life - Victor Frankl

I think both are given meaning only by the individual.  Most folk could care less.  Those snagged by the notion of enlightenment seem doomed to remain snagged by it.
