I had an interesting conversation with my friend Randall yesterday. Randall is a good friend from Minnesota who has just completed his fifth year of TCM studies. He's kept all of his lecture notes and CDs and textbooks for me so I'll have a jump start when I do get to school. I was explaining to him about (my boyfriend) Kevin's step Dad having skin cancer and leukemia and Randall asked me if I informed them of some of the more well known Natural cancer remedies such as selenium and some of the Chinese herbs proven to combat cancer. I explained to him that I tried once, but they were non-receptive so I didn't bother to persue it further. They are just not interested. Randall didn't seem surprised by that at all. "Get used to that." He said. "Most people want to die." I think that kind of shocked me. Now, I've known for a while that many people become very attached to their illnesses or dis-ease and identify strongly with it. It becomes a part of them and in healing often times the biggest obstacle is that the 'patient' is not ready or willing to let go of that attachment. But do "most people want to die". I am trying to discover whether or not I believe that to be true. What do you all think?

Lori Anne, this topic gets to me like no other. in a rather flippant sum-up, your friend is right. in a letter to a friend, i once wrote: there is no death by natural causes. either homicide or suicide, both occur from a lack of love which has manifested in our lifestyle organisation. when your friend says, most people want to die, i hear the echoes from the brave: we all have to... and i know the inner resignation this evokes in the more sensitive of us. a person familiar with true happiness, however small and brief and incomplete, does not want to die, rest assured. there is a huge difference between wanting to die and not being able to live. imho.

The more I think about this, the more I realize that this view, that most people want to die and the opinion, was given to me through someone else's filter. And for him, this may be true, he may see that most people want to do, through his own reflection. I don't think I see people in this way. Most people that I know are living their lives fully. That's a good thing.
